Momoko's Apartment, El Paso, Texas, Tuesday Night

Jaime finished the last bite of fish and leaned back in his chair with a satisfied sigh. "That was pretty good," he told his dinner companion with a smile. "I didn't know you could fry fish so well." Not to mention the salad. Which hadn't been anything special, but had been very nice.

He took a moment to just appreciate it, then looked across the table. "So... you want dessert now, or do you need to digest first?" He'd brought a cake. Too big for two people, honestly, but he rather suspected that, given Momoko, that wouldn't really be a problem. Either they'd eat it all tonight, or she'd have some for later.

"Well, I haven't cooked for you in over two years; I had to learn some things!" She chuckled as her fork chased some rice with her final piece of fish. "Although I totally lucked out, usually I go through a few pieces before I get some that are decent enough for other people to eat."

"And I always want dessert! I cant wait to see what you brought; that container has totally been teasing me since you got here. I'm surprised I've been at all interesting tonight." She popped the last of her own meal in her mouth with an amused snort.

Jaime smirked. "Hey, for all I know, you've spent the past two years taking cooking lessons from Karla!"

He pushed his chair back and stood up, moving toward the cake carrier he'd brought with him. "And you're always interesting."

"As if she could get permission to have a kitchen to teach in?" Momoko laughed as she scooted back and then stood, collecting plates to walk to the small sink. She bumped him sightly as she passed. "And you're biased, but thank you. Can I help with anything?"

"Doesn't she, like, own a whole mansion or something?" Jaime said as he pulled the cover off of a whipped-cream-topped cake with Hersey's kisses patterned across it. "And I suppose you could get us a couple of plates? And something to cut this with?"

She already had the smaller dessert plates AND cutlery in her hand! Priestly had totally hooked her up when it came to the kitchen.

"AAAAH!" Momoko's face lit up when she saw the cake. "That is so pretty! Can we really eat it?! Really?!"

Jaime let out a sigh. "Sadly, no. It's actually made of styrofoam. But it will look nice on the table!"

[heromaniac]

"Eh?" It was a fake? She tried not to look too disappointed as she set the plates down. "Oh. Yes. It will! Is it mine to keep? Thank you."

Somehow, Jaime managed to keep a straight face while he retrieved one of the plates and began to cut a slice of cake for Momoko. A Momoko-sized slice.

"Jaime!" She reached out to stop his hand. "Why are you cutting it up? I can use it as a paperweight or something! Promise!"

[weldedtomyspine]

"You'd use delicious cake as a paperweight?" Jaime asked, turning to look at her with sad, sad eyes.

That were totally dancing in amusement.

Wait...

"Jaime, you are so mean." And he now had a nose smeared with whipped cream topping.

"Hey, I can't believe you actually bought that! Who makes styrofoam cake?" Seriously!

[heromaniac]

"Lots of people! Well, maybe not Styrofoam." Momoko tugged the plate full of cake from his hands with a pout. "Haven't you seen them in stores? There's even jewelry designed to look like food."

[weldedtomyspine]

"And you think I'd go to all the trouble to find one?" Come on, Momoko. Have some faith!

The look she gave him indicated exactly of what faith she was capable

"Well, if you don't want the cake, I can take it back..."

[heromaniac]

"Oh no you don't. My cake!" Momoko pulled her plate away and reached for a fork. "Unless this tiny piece is yours and I get to cut my own slice?" Her idea of a Momoko-sized piece and Jaime's idea of a Momoko-sized piece were close but not exactly the same.

"Eat your cake," Jaime said, rolling his eyes and laughing. "Then we'll see if you can have more."

He got a kiss for that.

Momoko carried her plate of cake and returned to the low table she used for, well, for anything that needed to be on a table. She didn't have room for multiple pieces of furniture. She didn't have more than a room, after all!

There was, however, room to sit beside her, if he wanted.

"So you were telling me about your friend Alex's latest adventure?"

"Oh, right." Jaime grinned as he settled himself right up against her, and then reached out to steal a bit of whipped cream with his finger.

"So," he said, after licking it off, "right after he found the baby rhino..."

[heromaniac]

"Hey! You have your own!" She made to stab at him with her fork. "And it was an elephant during dinner. Are you making this story up?"

[weldedtomyspine]

"Of course I'm not making it up!" Jaime lied. "He found a baby elephant and a baby rhino."

[heromaniac]

Momoko gave him a stern look and then gave in to that cute look of denial he had going. "Fine." She shifted to again lean against him and attacked her cake. "But I am totally going to ask questions from now on."

"I'm pretty sure that's cheating," Jaime pointed out.

[heromaniac]

"Only if you're not telling the truth!" It was totally cheating and she knew it. "I told you all about my work day and now you ry to tell me a fake adventure."

She let her shoulders sag. "Talk about cheating!"
