Jaime finished the last bite of fish and leaned back in his chair with a satisfied sigh. "That was pretty good," he told his dinner companion with a smile. "I didn't know you could fry fish so well." Not to mention the salad. Which hadn't been anything special, but had been very nice.

He took a moment to just appreciate it, then looked across the table. "So... you want dessert now, or do you need to digest first?" He'd brought a cake. Too big for two people, honestly, but he rather suspected that, given Momoko, that wouldn't really be a problem. Either they'd eat it all tonight, or she'd have some for later.

"You did, did you?" Jaime asked, teasingly, clearly baiting for another compliment.

"I did. I thought about that kiss forever after that."

"And you don't think anything I could do could make you forget...?" Hmm?

Oooh. She loved it when he got that look on his face. "Well, it would be pretty hard. That was a really happy moment for me, stealing that kiss."

Jaime grinned. "Does stealing it make it better than if it's freely given?"

"Back then, that was the only way I could get a kiss from you." She squeezed him gently. "But there was a bit of excitement in it, I gotta say."

"You never tried asking," Jaime pointed out teasingly.

"You were dating my best friend?"

"What about before that?"

[heromaniac]

"Hmm." She shifted and ran her hand up his back as she thought a moment. "It took a while for me to figure out why it was different suddenly, hanging out with you."

"Yeah?" Jaime leaned forward to rest his forehead against hers. "I'm not that confusing, am I?"

"You are! One moment you're my best friend and the next, I can't stop my heart from exploding when you smile at me from down the hall."

"You're my best friend, and most of the time I feel that way around you." So maybe he could be both, too...

Momoko chuckled fondly. "Copy cat."

"Hey, I recognize a good idea when I hear one!"

"Do you really?" Why yes, that was an evil smile, Jaime.

Jaime aimed a teasingly skeptical look at her. "And what happens if I say 'yes'?"

"Oh. Maybe I'd need to test you or something? Gather proof."

"Mhmm." His eyes narrowed. "You're thinking something." Something devious, probably.

"I am." She was.

"You going to share, or do I need to figure out a way to make you talk?" He'd be willing to try!

"Do you really think you can?" Oooh. His idea was sounding way better! "I'm pretty good at keeping a secret."

No she wasn't, but in this game? She'd totally try.

"Ah, but I know a bunch of your weak points," Jaime said with a slow grin. "It probably won't take me long."

"Are you sure? It's been a while. Maybe I've grown an immunity or something."
